Bell’s palsy is a condition in which the muscles on one side of your face become weak or paralyzed. It affects only one side of the face at a time, causing it to droop or become stiff on that side. It’s caused by some kind of trauma to the seventh cranial nerve. This is also called the “facial nerve.” Bell’s palsy can happen to anyone. But it seems to occur more often in people who have diabetes or are recovering from viral infections.
Most of the time, symptoms are only temporary. Most doctors believe that it’s due to damage to the facial nerve, which causes swelling. This nerve passes through a narrow, bony area within the skull. At Gurgaon ENT Centre we have seen that viral infections may also play a role in the development of Bell's palsy.
The symptoms of Bell’s palsy tend to come on all of a sudden. You may go to bed one night feeling fine. But when you look in the mirror the next morning, you see that part of your face seems to be drooping. Some people feel pain behind their ear 1-2 days before they notice any weakness. Others say that sounds seem much louder than normal in the days before they see any other symptoms. Following may also be noticed before the Bell's Palsy happens:
- You’re unable to close your eyelid or blink
- Difficulty chewing
- Decreased sense of taste
- Twitching of facial muscles
- Pain or numbness behind the ears
There’s no test that can tell you for sure if you have Bell’s palsy. In fact, at Gurgaon ENT Centre India we usually call it a "diagnosis of exclusion." That means in most cases, they determine you have Bell's palsy only after other conditions have been ruled out. There aren’t any treatment that can stop it. If our ENT Specialist suggests your symptoms might be triggered by the herpes virus (herpes simplex 1) or by shingles (herpes zoster), she may give you an antiviral medication, like acyclovir. Dr Priyanjana at Gurgaon ENT Centre may also give you a short course of corticosteroids (like prednisone). The goal is to decrease swelling of your facial nerve. This may shorten the duration of your Bell's palsy symptoms. The medication is dovetailed with some good physiotherapy session which are very important for the 360 degree treatment of Bell's Palsy.
I absolutely loved the experience or having consulting her. I should have gone to her before. Extremely satisfied with the advices and initial treatments she suggested. She is really caring kind and explains the causes to the patients in the language they speak.
"Affection is a powerful medicine". I think that's what is her doctrine. Dr. Priyaranjana comes across as an angel, in those real tough times. Treatment and pills surely cure a disease, but love and affection is what makes all the difference. One of the most loving medical practitioner have ever come across. She is brilliant at her art and refined in her techniques. An absolute blend of intelligence and devotion in all what she does. Recently, gone through Tonsillectomy and Nasal Septoplasty in August 2018. It was one painful episode creating turbulence in my life for a month, but results were over whelming and worth all the pain and discomfort. I now breathe smooth with a better throat. Sigh of relief - making my living a lot more peaceful and productive. Plus this antibiotic and infection free living is so much fun and lively. Been associated with her for past two years gives me all the power and reason to write about her with absolute conviction. Not just during my surgery, she devoted her best in me, but have been encouraging through out my consultation with her over the years. I just don't recommend her, adore her completely. Doctors like her are rare. I respect her for living her profession with utmost honesty sincerity and love. We need more doctors like her, who are masters not just in their profession but winning hearts, wherever they go, and whatever they do.
Every time even a single drop of water in my left ear drum would lead to severe ear pain and infection. It was becoming a prolonged problem and finally in Apr’17, I decided to get it fixed. I started looking out for best ENT Specialist in Delhi, but could not find any because most of the specialists had mixed reviews. I was about to end my search, when I thought about looking out in NCR as well and Voila!! I found Dr. Priyanjana A Sharma with the best reviews ever and based on the online reviews, I decided to go for a consultation and I AM SO GLAD, I DID!! To begin with, she has all the patience in the world to hear you out properly. From the very first meeting with her, I knew it that she will cure me completely. She told me the problem with my ear drum is because of enlarged tonsillitis in my throat and adenoids in my nose. Within that same month, I decided to get it operated as advised by her. I wasn’t nervous at all and it was all because she is so convincing and has such a gentle touch, that I was completely assured at the back of my mind, that I am in safe hands. My surgery was successful and I recovered within 15 days. Not only her “before” and “during” the surgery care is extraordinary but even post-surgery, she took care of me very well. Even today, if I face any difficulty she is only a phone call away and that’s so comforting!! Her reviews helped me a lot and that’s why, I am writing a review for her today because she totally deserves one. If you have any ENT problem, I strongly recommend you to please visit Dr. Sharma once and you will be grateful to her forever, like I am. THANK YOU Doctor, you are truly a blessing, the most ingenious inspirer of hope. Thank you for everything you have done to keep me in best of spirits. I wish the best for you always.
Few months back I had a troublesome sinus infection and was suffering from earache and headaches due to sinus blockage. After visiting few doctors I finally luckily found Dr. Priyanjana. She looked into my reports and explained all the problems and prescribed alternate medicines for some of the steroids I was taking from previous doctor's prescription. We discussed about the solutions and I had FESS and septoplasty surgery performed by her.She clearly explained the procedures and how I would feel in the recovery period.I am writing this review 6 weeks after the surgery and I am finally feeling a LOT better now. She is a genuine doctor, very true to her profession and a humble human being. Thanks ma'am.
Her credentials already say how good a doctor she is, so i may not be required to say that again here. You may find good doctors who can cure you, all around the world. But with Dr. Acharya you have your doctor always with you (just a call away) all around the world. Always happy to help. With very few doctors I have seen such commendable commitment to be there for your patient whenever one is need. Kudos !

Dr. Priyanjana understand the patients concern very sciencerly which helps a lot in overall treatment. Dr. Priyanjana is a beautiful person, talented and dedicated professional.
